FAQ

Do you take insurance?

I do not participate with most insurance plans, as I have chosen to operate as a cash-based practice. This model allows me to focus on patient care rather than insurance limitations and restrictive visit structures. Without the constraints of insurance billing requirements, I am able to spend more time with each patient, offer more personalized treatment plans, and provide care that is guided by clinical judgment and your individual needs — not by insurance policies.  I do bill directly to HMAA but for all others, I will happily provide a superbill to submit for reimbursement for commercial plans.

What is a Naturopathic Doctor?

Licensed naturopathic physicians (NDs) are trained as primary care providers in accredited four-year, doctoral-level medical programs. Their education includes biomedical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and clinical diagnosis, alongside training in clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, lifestyle counseling, and other evidence-informed natural therapies. Naturopathic physicians complete extensive supervised clinical training and, in licensed states, must pass rigorous national board examinations. Their approach emphasizes identifying and addressing the root cause of illness while integrating conventional and natural therapies to support whole-person health.

Can you be my primary care provider?

As a licensed naturopathic physician, I am trained and licensed to practice as primary care provider and have done so for nearly 20 years. However, at this timeI have chosen to focus exclusively on endocrinology. This specialization allows me to devote my experience and advanced training to complex hormonal and metabolic conditions — including thyroid disorders, hormone replacement therapy, and Type 1 diabetes — providing deeper expertise and more focused, high-level care for patients navigating these intricate systems.

How long are visits?

Initial office visits are a two-part consultation.  The initial part is 45 minutes, in which we review your medical history in-depth.  At this visit, we will order any labs, data, or imaging that is needed, request or review any previous records, and do any physical exams for those doing in-person visits.    The second half of the initial consultation will occur after all information has been received and reviewed.  During this 30 minute consultation we will go over any results and will go over treatment options in depth.  Together we will fine-tune the recommendations and make sure we have a solid treatment plan that works well for all aspects of your life.  All follow-up visits will be 30 minutes, except for specialty procedures, which will have individual times based on the specific situation and can be discussed upon scheduling.

How much do appointments cost?

Transparency in pricing is very important and all details can be found on the PRICING page.  For labs, I will work with the local labs for those with commercial insurance plans that will cover out-of-network providers.  For those that have no insurance or a plan that does not cover naturopathic doctors, I work with a number of mainland labs to keep pricing down.  All costs will be discussed and disclosed prior to any finalization of plans.  I understand that financial health is a part of overall health and will always do my best to keep treatment plans affordable for my patients.

Can you prescribe medications?

As a licensed naturopathic doctor, I am able to prescribe prescription medications when they are appropriate and clinically indicated as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. My approach integrates conventional therapies with nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and targeted supplementation to ensure patients receive well-rounded, individualized care. I do not prescribe controlled substances; when therapies such as testosterone replacement are indicated, I collaborate closely with a trusted prescribing physician to ensure safe, coordinated, and seamless care for my patients.

Are there additional fees?

All visit fees are available on the PRICING page.  Supplements, labs, and other services will be additional but costs will always be discussed and transparent for all patients.  Because I am mostly virtual at this time, I no longer stock supplements but do use a third party for the purchase of quality supplements.

Can I use my HSA/ FSA account?

You can certainly try using your HSA/ FSA card for payment.  You will be sent an electronic invoice or can pay in person during your visit.  Either way you may try one of these payment types first but please be prepared with an alternative form of payment in the event that it is not approved by the payments system or your plan.
