Thyroid Disorders

bringing back balance______

Thyroid disorders are complex and often multifactorial, affecting metabolism, mood, energy, hair, digestion, and cardiovascular health. In my consultations I take a comprehensive approach to understanding why thyroid dysfunction is occurring rather than focusing solely on a single lab value. While conventional care often relies primarily on TSH screening, a fuller picture may include free T4, free T3, reverse T3, thyroid antibodies, nutrient status, blood sugar balance, greater hormone evaluation, and stress physiology. Without evaluating thyroid antibodies, autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Graves’ disease can sometimes go unrecognized, leaving patients treated for “hypothyroidism” or “hyperthyroidism” without addressing the underlying immune imbalance driving the process.

It is important to understand that Hashimoto’s and Graves’ disease are not simply thyroid gland problems—they are immune system disorders that target the thyroid. When the immune system is the root cause, treatment must extend beyond hormone replacement or suppression to include immune modulation, gut health support, nutrient optimization, and inflammation reduction. Stress also plays a powerful role in thyroid function, influencing cortisol levels, immune signaling, and the conversion of T4 to active T3. Chronic stress can exacerbate autoimmune activity and contribute to symptoms even when labs appear “normal.” My goal is to identify the true driver of dysfunction—whether glandular, immune-mediated, stress-related, or a combination—and create a personalized plan that restores balance, improves symptoms, and supports long-term thyroid health.
