Type 1 Diabetes
the silent warriors___________
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition in which the body mistakenly attacks the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas, resulting in a lifelong need for insulin therapy. Insulin is not optional—it is essential, life-saving, and something I hold deep respect and gratitude for every single day. As both a naturopathic physician and a mother of a child living with type 1 diabetes, I understand intimately the vigilance, resilience, and constant decision-making this condition requires. I appreciate the science that makes modern insulin therapy possible, and I also understand the emotional and practical realities of managing blood sugars around the clock.

While insulin remains the cornerstone of treatment, there are additional supportive strategies that can help improve stability, reduce variability, and enhance overall wellbeing. Thoughtful nutrition, timing of meals, exercise planning, stress regulation, sleep optimization, and targeted supplementation can all influence glucose patterns and insulin sensitivity. In virtual consultations, I work collaboratively with individuals and families to integrate evidence-informed naturopathic tools alongside conventional diabetes care—always prioritizing safety, data review, and coordination when needed. My goal is to support not just blood sugar numbers, but quality of life, confidence, and long-term health for those navigating life with type 1 diabetes.
